I went to Carbon Grove dot com and I found out that they will plant an actual tree (in my case a Kapok Tree) in any of three places on earth where they are being destroyed! Just let them send you email reminders of things that you can do to help reduce your carbon footprint! Then when you keep your tree alive virtually they will plant one (actually) in the forest of your choice!!
What an easy way to help the planet!!
This is an amazing book!! You simply must read this. If you have lost your faith in people and think that there are no longer out there, the kind of caring, feeling people that actually want to know your problems. The kind that need to know what they can do about the problems you face. This is the story of that kind of person and the journey he undertook to make sure people who wanted to learn, people who had that thirsting for knowledge, had a place to go. I thought this book was awe inspiring!! Well worth the read!!
"It’s been alleged that if you’ve seen over 85 movies you have no life. Mark the ones you’ve seen. There are 239 films on this list. Copy this list, go to your own blog, paste it in and put x’s by the ones that you have seen. Add them up, figure out whether you’ve got a life or not, and post it."

I have been tagged by Wife"Mom"Knitter to take part in another meme. So here goes!
The rules: Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.
1) What were you doing ten years ago? Ten years ago I was working at Moran Brush working the private label imprint /hot stamp machine. I was good at setting type (spelling things backward).
2) Five (non-work) things on my to-do list for today: I’m going out to a Greek Festival in Bridgeport, to the Jones hill tree farm winery and then laundry and straighten up the house a bit, not necessarily in that order.
3) Snacks I enjoy:I make trail mix a lot because I can put things in it like : chocolate covered ginger, nuts and craisins. I also love chocolate cake or brownies.
4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire: Travel, I want to go to Ireland, Greece, Italy and England. Give money to people that I know who are in need.
5) Places I have lived: Hamden, Connecticut and New Haven, Connecticut
7) Peeps I want to know more about: Life with Cats, Amorous, Shel, Agatha Frye, Lindsay T and and anyone who is reading this and hasn't been tagged.
6) Jobs I have had: My first job was as a telephone solicitor. I worked as a nurses aide before you needed to be certified, I worked in the shoe dept at Ames and at the Pumpernickel Pub as a short order cook.
The biased dishclothes are the most easily finished and the most relaxing to work on, so they remain my favorite projects. The fingerless mitts are coming along, albeit slowly (almost painfully so)! I don't intend to rush these, so I work on them only at SnB or when at home. The waste yarn (yellow) shown above is the eventual location of the thumb gusset. I hope I'm still interested in making the second one when this one is complete! I won't take them to work because I will be distracted and may ruin them. I don't want that to happen!
Every time I talk to a friend or relative I feel so blessed. I have no kids. There was a time when I thought this was terrible, no one to take care of me when I got old, no one to love now, no one to instill my values in. In short no way to leave a legacy to the world (a little piece of me).
Now I am grateful for this mixed blessing, for a few reasons, there are no strings of course, nothing to hold me if there is something I am desperate to do. No responsibility for anyone but myself. Living with aging parents is no picnic of course, but, then again, I don't need to board the cat when I go away either. There are (as with all things in life) an "up" side and a "down" side.
After seeing how some kids treat their parents during the rebellious teen phase of trying to become adults too quickly and not seeing how really great they have it now! I have finally realized that I really have it pretty good. I could be dealing with a few deductions that suck you dry both financially and emotionally. Feeling that they can no longer live with the rules that were designed to protect them and help them grow into productive and nurturing parts of society themselves, they move out to the house of a boyfriend or girlfriend and ignore your existence until they are slapped in the face good and hard by reality!
Knitting continues, there are three dishclothes on the needles and a fingerless mitt (still the first) I don't feel that I can take this kind of project to work or I'll get distracted and make a really horendous mistake that I can't fix! That darn scarf is no closer to being done either, because I just am not interested enough in finishing it!
This is my love, my cat, Seamus. He can be a bit pushy when I am knitting, and, will often chew on the yarn if I don't pay enough attention to him. He seems to like cotton.
I got really bored with ball band dishclothes and bound this one off half way through!! I think the colors are a bit too bright also!! I think I'm getting the hang of this. This dishcloth is finished and given away, and, matches the recipients kitchen!!!Well, not here yet, but, I have managed to upload them to Flickr. That's a good start and there are a few more when I get around to it. Please go and check them out, while I figure out how to get them here again. It's been a while and when I don't do it enough it doesn't seem to stay in my head!!
Talk about a short post! This is a personal record!
My moms birthday was last night. I went to a really old, Italian, family-run bakery in New Haven after work to pick up her cake, an Italian Cream mmm!! They've always been the best!! They still had some Zepoles so I got some of those too!! The whole family had a dinner that my sister-in-law and brother picked up from mom's favorite restaurant. It was a nice family dinner, with everyone at the table, they don't happen all that much anymore.
I still need to figure out how to post pictures and when I have a spare minute I will. I did it once, all I have to do is figure out how! Pictures will be coming soon I promise! Right now I have dinner to go to in West Haven and a hair appointment in the morning. Maybe tomorrow afternoon I will have some time to spend on it!
What is it that I'm reading? Why it's Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451". It's a relatively easy read and can be read in a weekend. Be forwarned that it may take some "getting into". I found it riveting after a brief warming up period. It's a good book to make you think about how lucky we are to be able to read anything we want.
In other news : I finally got my ribbing in the round and am currently knitting around and around and around, I will finish, however, I cannot be certain when.
Sorry about the short post, I'm tired and I keep making mistakes and typos so before one gets into the post before I notice it...
I think is more of a choice than being lucky. I think the same as you do... I don't like... read more
on I am so lucky?
