I am so lucky?
Every time I talk to a friend or relative I feel so blessed. I have no kids. There was a time when I thought this was terrible, no one to take care of me when I got old, no one to love now, no one to instill my values in. In short no way to leave a legacy to the world (a little piece of me).
Now I am grateful for this mixed blessing, for a few reasons, there are no strings of course, nothing to hold me if there is something I am desperate to do. No responsibility for anyone but myself. Living with aging parents is no picnic of course, but, then again, I don't need to board the cat when I go away either. There are (as with all things in life) an "up" side and a "down" side.
After seeing how some kids treat their parents during the rebellious teen phase of trying to become adults too quickly and not seeing how really great they have it now! I have finally realized that I really have it pretty good. I could be dealing with a few deductions that suck you dry both financially and emotionally. Feeling that they can no longer live with the rules that were designed to protect them and help them grow into productive and nurturing parts of society themselves, they move out to the house of a boyfriend or girlfriend and ignore your existence until they are slapped in the face good and hard by reality!
Knitting continues, there are three dishclothes on the needles and a fingerless mitt (still the first) I don't feel that I can take this kind of project to work or I'll get distracted and make a really horendous mistake that I can't fix! That darn scarf is no closer to being done either, because I just am not interested enough in finishing it!

I think is more of a choice than being lucky.
I think the same as you do... I don't like the behavior children have today... and until the life hit them hard and make them understand, they act as they own the parents and they are entitle to everything.
I am in the mid 40's and don't regret a bit the choice I made for not having children. I was lucky to have a husband who thinks like me and he didn't want to have them either.
Nice things you are doing with your knitting... I do too but now I am very busy with a graduation cake due on Sunday.
