I went to a picnic last night and to watch fireworks!! We played Scattergories too!! I really enjoyed that game. Someone throws a die and the letter that comes up is the first letter of your answers. You get extra points for doubles. If your letter is L and one of your answers is Lois Lane you score extra points. I need to go and but this game for myself. I also made a cake for the picnic and it came out pretty nice!
In knitting news I am back to work on my fingerless mitts! A while ago, one of my needles broke and It was a few weeks before I figured out how to get them off those needles and on to new ones. Thanks to my cousins wife who suggested that I move them to dpns before the new needles (I was trying to go straight to the new ones). Now its on to the thumbs! I may add a few pics later.
The biased dishclothes are the most easily finished and the most relaxing to work on, so they remain my favorite projects. The fingerless mitts are coming along, albeit slowly (almost painfully so)! I don't intend to rush these, so I work on them only at SnB or when at home. The waste yarn (yellow) shown above is the eventual location of the thumb gusset. I hope I'm still interested in making the second one when this one is complete! I won't take them to work because I will be distracted and may ruin them. I don't want that to happen!
Every time I talk to a friend or relative I feel so blessed. I have no kids. There was a time when I thought this was terrible, no one to take care of me when I got old, no one to love now, no one to instill my values in. In short no way to leave a legacy to the world (a little piece of me).
Now I am grateful for this mixed blessing, for a few reasons, there are no strings of course, nothing to hold me if there is something I am desperate to do. No responsibility for anyone but myself. Living with aging parents is no picnic of course, but, then again, I don't need to board the cat when I go away either. There are (as with all things in life) an "up" side and a "down" side.
After seeing how some kids treat their parents during the rebellious teen phase of trying to become adults too quickly and not seeing how really great they have it now! I have finally realized that I really have it pretty good. I could be dealing with a few deductions that suck you dry both financially and emotionally. Feeling that they can no longer live with the rules that were designed to protect them and help them grow into productive and nurturing parts of society themselves, they move out to the house of a boyfriend or girlfriend and ignore your existence until they are slapped in the face good and hard by reality!
Knitting continues, there are three dishclothes on the needles and a fingerless mitt (still the first) I don't feel that I can take this kind of project to work or I'll get distracted and make a really horendous mistake that I can't fix! That darn scarf is no closer to being done either, because I just am not interested enough in finishing it!
My "Ball Band Dishcloth" is finished. It's not perfect, but, no one will ever know. I'm still practising ribbing and for instant gratification, I am working on a scarf. I need to see progress, and ripping things out as soon as it's obvious that they're not as perfect as I'd like just dosen't show any.
I'm off today and have a therapy appointment later, my arms are killing me. I work in a library and do things with books, and, some books are heavy!
Thank Goodness knitting isn't the culprit!!
My turquoise and cream "Ball Band Dishcloth" is almost ready to cast off!! Yay!! I'm still practising my 2x2 ribbing and will soon start my fingerless mitts with or without cables it depends on how good the cables come out.
I am also trying a recipe that I found online. It sounds like a semi-homemade type that starts with something store bought (in this case crescent rolls), and adds nuts and brown sugar and stuff! I may even take a picture!
